The Senior System Administrator is responsible for all physical and virtual Windows servers, storage and network connections to ensure high availability and security of the supported business applications. The Senior System Administrator participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with organizational goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate should be accustomed to working in a mid to large-size organization and possess the desire to cross train and perform other duties as required. A strong network and telephony understanding is desired.
This position requires 24 x 7 on-call rotational support.
Ideal candidate should be local to the twin cities areas.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain standards and templates for MS Windows in compliance with insurance industry security standards and MS best practices.
  • Operate and maintain all production, test, and development systems in a Windows environment.
  • Manage the configuration and daily operation of the VMWare infrastructure.
  • Manage Windows Active Directory integrated DNS servers and multi-master zones.
  • Manage replication between global catalogs and domain controllers.
  • Install new software releases, system upgrades; evaluate and install patches and resolve software and OS related problems.
  • Desktop/Client Operation and Management to include but is not limited to setup/ installation/replacement, software and peripheral upgrades, service requests, and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery infrastructure planning, building, and testing.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software issues.
  • Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
  • Perform system administration activities to include account management, monitoring and management of system resources (CPU, memory, disk, etc.), monitoring and auditing system logs, back-up and recovery, continuity of operations, security, managing operating systems, and storage management.
  • Qualified candidates should have an understanding of multiple network components including but not limited to: switches, routers, VPN configuration, security, telecommunication systems and programming.
  • Follow established Incident, Problem, and Change Management procedures in order to document all requests for service, resolve user issues, correct the root cause of incidents, and minimize any adverse impact to the customer.
  • Support Microsoft Windows server technologies (Server 2008 R2/2012/2016) operating systems, VMware virtualization platforms (vSphere 5.5/6/6.5).
Vmware skills  required:
  • Strong hands-on experience with vSphere systems administration and support including VMotion, HA, DRS, VDS, Affinity rules, vCenter, storage migrations, and P2V migrations.
  • Strong hands-on experience with vSphere problem determination, capacity planning and root cause analysis.
  • Strong hands-on experience with vSphere Thin Provisioning, Resource Pools, Host Profiles, and 3rd party plug-ins.
  • Strong hands-on experience with vSphere Standard and Distributed Switches.
  • Experience with running administrative reports in VMware.
  • Experience with running administrative reports in using vRealize Operation Manager.
  • Experience working with vCenter server appliance 6.0 is plus.
  • Experience working with VMware Platform Services Controller appliance in vSphere 6.0 is plus.Produce, Maintain and update technical documentation. 
  • 7-10+ years of experience with Windows 2008 R2 Server and or Windows 2012 R2 Server and or Windows 2016 Server.
  • Proficient in building and securing servers based on Microsoft best practices and industry security standards.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Strong hands-on experience with server virtualization technologies.
  • Strong hands-on experience with System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), Windows Scripting (PowerShell), Windows Task Manager, VMware View (VDI) administration, WEB Master (IIS) and Desktop management.
  • Strong hands-on experience with HP rack mount and HP blade servers.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Exchange Server, SQL Server, SharePoint, Dynamix is plus.
